Golnoosh Akhlamadi: Sustainable Cellulose Nanofiber/Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Hybrid Networks Electrode for Electrochemical Water-Quality Monitoring

This project aims to develop sustainable, bio-based electrode materials for electrochemical monitoring of water quality. TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers are combined with single-walled carbon nanotubes to produce thin hybrid films that do not require binders or current collectors. Within these networks, cellulose nanofibers function as a renewable dispersing matrix, while the nanotubes provide electrical and electrochemical conductivity. Varying the nanotube-to-cellulose ratio and sonication conditions enables systematic investigation of how film morphology, interfacial chemistry, and conductivity influence sensing performance. The resulting electrodes are assessed for their ability for detecting molecular contaminants in water systems. This project contributes to the development of sustainable nanomaterial platforms for advanced electroanalytical applications and supports the broader transition toward circular, bio-based materials.
